Within my role at Paducah Main Street, with the help of the Paducah Main Street Board, the Paducah Main Street Team, and the Downtown Community, we have been able to create the Fridays After Five summer concert series! We have created an event with so much support from the community, city, and county that will hopefully continue for years to come! The event has created such a buzz in our downtown—even with a few weather setbacks! Describe a challenge in your career and how you overcame it. A challenge in this career has been getting people to see the bigger picture of Paducah Main Street. Paducah Main Street can be seen as an organization that just plans events in Downtown Paducah, but we are an organization that is concerned about the long-term standing of our downtown area, our businesses, both present and future, and keeping the history alive in Downtown Paducah. Who inspires you, and how has that influenced your professional journey? One person who both inspires me to be great every day and whom I look up to is David Wilkins. He has invested in me as a professional and as a person. He cares about his community, wants to invest in the future, and strives for success. He has taught me that the end goal is not always the easy route, but if you continue to go after what you believe in, you will see results in more ways than you originally thought. He believes in Paducah, and he is a constant cheerleader for success in our community. What advice would you give to other young professionals striving for success? “Fail forward.” That is the one piece of advice that is a constant in my life. It is inevitable that you are going to experience failure, and it is important to learn how to fail. Once you learn how to handle that redirection in life, you’ll be able to continue to grow and learn! Blaine McDonald Executive Director, Paducah Main Street First Baptist Church of Paducah Worship Team, Paducah Chamber of Commerce Member What are your most significant professional accomplishments to date? I started my own carpentry business in 2017. I single- handedly designed and constructed notable projects such as Barrel and Bond’s custom bar and shelving, along with their initial tables; a 20-foot custom epoxy-pour conference table for The Wealth Management Group; and projects for several other companies, such as Window World, Re-Bath, Emerald Therapy, and many others. One other unique accomplishment is being featured on Magnolia Network’s “Barnwood Builders.” We gained national attention from being featured there. It was a very humbling, cool experience getting to see the behind-the-scenes work on the show. Describe a challenge in your career and how you overcame it. My shop, where I operate my fine carpentry studio, caught fire in February 2022. The fire destroyed the interior and claimed everything—all equipment and several residential and commercial projects in the works. We had to find another temporary location to continue our work (with tools to accompany it) and also begin the journey of tearing down what the fire left of our shop and start planning another one. My initial thought was, “I can’t give up. I have come too far to give up and stop.” I didn’t know how, but I knew I had to overcome it. And that’s what fueled my willpower. I had to decide and commit to pressing on in order to be successful. What makes you stand out in your industry or field? What stands out is our unique designs and the intention that goes into each piece from start to finish.
