One of my greatest accomplishments is building a career centered on service, advocacy, and creating meaningful change in the lives of others. I take pride in being someone who listens, helps solve complex problems, and works collaboratively to strengthen both organizations and the communities they serve. What makes you stand out in your industry or field? What sets me apart in my industry is the depth and diversity of my service-oriented experience. Throughout my career, I have worked across multiple sectors, but the common thread has always been a commitment to serving people and improving their quality of life. I have supported individuals impacted by the criminal justice system who were experiencing mental health and substance use challenges, advocated for survivors of sexual assault, worked alongside children and families within school systems, connected employees with resources to support their well-being, and assisted community members navigating the human rights complaint process. These experiences have allowed me to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds while developing strong skills in advocacy, problem-solving, collaboration, and relationship-building. In addition, my experience in both state and local government has given me a broad understanding of public service, policy implementation, and community engagement. What kind of legacy do you hope to leave in your career or community? I hope to leave a legacy of service, leadership, and opportunity. I want my accomplishments to make my family, especially my children, Xzalyah, Daishaun, and Essence proud. Their support, along with the values my family instilled in me, has shaped who I am and inspires me to serve others with integrity and compassion. I also hope to be remembered as someone who opened doors for others, shared knowledge and resources, and helped create opportunities for people to succeed. Above all, I want to leave every organization, community, and person I encounter better than I found them. Describe a challenge in your career and how you overcame it. One of the biggest challenges I faced as Vice President & Chief Engineer was balancing today’s operational needs with preparing our company for tomorrow. It would have been easy to focus on short-term fixes, but I believed we needed to invest in infrastructure that would deliver long-term value. That meant making thoughtful decisions about where to invest capital, challenging existing processes, and ensuring we got the most out of every dollar. Those weren’t always the easiest conversations, but they were the right ones. By building a stronger operational foundation, we positioned the company for sustainable growth, greater efficiency, and the flexibility to meet future demands. Looking back, I’m proud that those decisions continue to benefit our employees, our customers, and the long-term success of the organization. What makes you stand out in your industry or field? I believe what sets me apart is how I lead people. I’ve learned that the best ideas don’t come from one person; they come from listening, building trust, and bringing people together around a common goal. My background in engineering taught me how to solve complex problems, but my career has shown me that lasting success is built through relationships. I enjoy finding practical solutions, making thoughtful decisions, and helping others grow along the way. Whether I’m working with our team or our customers, I try to lead with integrity, humility, and a long-term perspective. At the end of the day, I want people to know they can count on me to do what’s right, maximize every opportunity, and leave the organization stronger than I found it. What kind of legacy do you hope to leave in your career or community? The legacy I hope to leave is one built on relationships. I want the people I’ve worked with to remember that I cared about them, believed in them, and took the time to help them grow. Titles and accomplishments are important, but the impact we have on others is what truly lasts. Throughout my career, I’ve tried to lead in a way that builds trust, creates opportunities, and brings out the best in those around me. I hope the work we’ve done continues to benefit our employees, our customers, and our community for years to come. When I look back, I want to know that I helped build something meaningful and that the people who shared the journey with me felt supported and valued along the way.
