B y M a i z i e M a r t i n P h o t o s b y A m b e r T a y l o r IN HONOR OF WORLD HEALTH DAY on April 7th, we have chosen to shine a spotlight on the individuals who work tirelessly to support our mental well-being. Their dedication is crucial as mental health plays a major role in our lives. This month’s community HERO is Elizabeth Meggs of Four Rivers Behavioral Health. Elizabeth, also known as Liz, has devoted 15 years to the social work field. She resides in Paducah and has roots in the area, with her close family living in Wickliffe. Liz enjoys reading various genres of books, dancing, listening to music, and attending as many concerts as possible. In 2023, she went to almost 20 concerts. Liz has been at Four Rivers for just under three years. Upon realizing that social work strives not only to help others but to stand up for what is right, she felt a deep connection, and it became clear that this was her calling in life. “I love being able to create a safe space for all my clients where they can learn, grow, and work on whatever they need to,” Liz states. “Change is incredibly hard, so seeing those positive changes is my favorite part of my work.” Liz has a passion for helping people overcome previous trauma. Liz will be working on getting her Community HEROES Created and sponsored by Jan Matthews Team - Homes for Heroes Affiliate and VUE Magazine doctorate starting this summer with plans to further specialize in trauma-focused interventions. Liz is a part of the System of Care Team at Four Rivers, established through a grant to enhance services for families connected with state social work. Initially aimed at keeping families together, it has evolved to aid families and children from diverse backgrounds, focusing on trauma- informed interventions. These weekly therapy sessions serve as a cornerstone of their approach, allowing families to engage in meaningful conversations and healing activities in a familiar and comfortable setting. Whether it’s at home, school, or an office, the team ensures that families have access to the support they need, where they need it the most. Through their dedication and commitment, Liz and the System of Care Team are making a positive impact on the lives of families from diverse backgrounds, empowering them to navigate challenges and build stronger, healthier relationships. Liz is not just respected by her patients but also by her colleagues. Amanda Clark, who worked with Liz in the past, mentioned, “She was always ready to help with any task, Homes for Heroes is an amazing program that focuses on helping heroes, such as firefighters, EMTs, police officers, military, active and inactive, medical professionals, and teachers.
