Event PreVUE medications kept safely out of reach of animals. A change of clothes, comfortable walking shoes or boots in case of rain, and any preferred snacks or beverages are also recommended. While the shelter will provide a variety of food and drinks, food trucks and vendors will also be available for additional options. Attendees may also want to bring supplies for the kennel decorating contest, which is part of the event’s activities. If attending the Shelter Slumber Pawty isn’t possible, there are still many ways to support the McCracken County Humane Society. The shelter regularly accepts donations of essential supplies to help care for the animals in their facility. Needed items include dry dog and puppy food without red dye, wet dog and puppy food, dry cat and kitten food, and wet cat and kitten food. The shelter also welcomes donations of linens such as sheets, blankets, towels, washcloths, and comforters. Cleaning supplies are another important need, including bleach, Dawn dish soap, original Pine- Sol, OdoBan, disinfectant wipes, Febreze spray, Lysol spray, and paper towels. Additional helpful items include non-clumping cat litter as well as dog and cat toys to help keep the animals comfortable and engaged while they wait for their forever homes. Events like the Shelter Slumber Pawty helps bring attention to the challenges many shelters face, such as overcrowding and limited resources. Through conversations with participants and social media updates, the McCracken County Humane Society hopes to highlight the importance of community support while also sharing ways to help prevent overcrowding in local shelters. While adoption is always the ultimate goal, the shelter says meaningful support can also come through donating supplies, volunteering time, or fostering animals in need. By the time the event concludes on April 19, Nalley and the crew hopes to see several animals adopted or placed into foster homes, exceed last year’s fundraising total, and strengthen connections with community members who want to stay involved. They also are excited to highlight a new chapter of the McCracken County Humane Society, opening a low cost spay and neuter surgery center for the residents of McCracken County. Above all, Nalley hopes participants walk away with a deeper understanding of the dedication shelter staff have for the animals in their care and the important role the community plays in helping those animals find loving homes. It takes a village, truly. 52 APRIL 2026 | INTHEVUE.COM
