56 AUGUST 2024 | INTHEVUE.COM Today, the Charity League consists of 50 active members and several hundred associate members. “The mission of the non- profit organization, The Charity League, Inc., is to raise funds for Easterseals West Kentucky and assist other local non-profits that support the health, welfare, and general care of women and children,” said Shafer. “While creating a legacy of friendship and passion for our community, our primary purpose is to financially assist Easterseals West Kentucky.” Their members carry out Charity League’s mission on a 100% volunteer basis. The Charity League accepts new members in the fall of each year. Women interested in joining can reach out to the membership chair at [email protected] and look for up-to-date information on their Facebook page! As a member of the Charity League, you are given an opportunity to influence positive change in the community by supporting local charities through volunteer work and fundraising. “In 2022-2023, our members spent a total of 272 hours between 21 different local organizations; such as Cinderella’s Closet, Night to Shine, and Kare for Kids volunteering their time. In that same year, over $62,000 was raised and donated to Easterseals West Kentucky with another $27,890 donated to seven other local charities that support the welfare and betterment of women and children in our area,” said Shafer. “We were also able to provide 15 full scholarships to individuals at Easterseals West Kentucky to participate in horse therapy at Cassidy’s Cause.” Fundraising is a major factor in non-profits, and The Charity League has one that many look forward to each year - The Snowball Gala. “The annual Snowball Gala is a night of fun and fellowship that we look forward to each year. Last year, we added a silent auction and casino games. In addition to the music and food provided, we are planning to do the same this year,” said Shafer. “Local businesses agree to sponsor the event and funds raised are donated to Easterseals West Kentucky. Pulling off an event of this magnitude takes months of work, and it is fun to see members of the league and the community come together to support Easterseals!” In addition to Snowball, The Charity League has a spring fundraising event every year. “The event in the spring varies between our bi-annual golf scramble and trying something new! This year we have plans to host a pickle ball tour in the spring where local businesses can form teams and pay an entry fee to play,” says Shafer “We are still in the beginning stages of planning and I’m excited to see how this new fundraiser develops. We always have a new member class fundraiser as well.”
