INTHEVUE.COM | AUGUST 2024 57 Shafer loves the new member fundraisers and seeing what they come up with! Every year is something new, and for someone who loves giving back, seeing new ideas come to fruition only makes her proud to be a part of something so amazing. “I was born and raised in Western Kentucky. This is where my husband and I have chosen to raise our family and I love giving back to a community that has given so much to me,” said Shafer. “This is my home and I’m proud to support it however I can! Knowing that we can make a difference, no matter how big or small, provides me with a sense of purpose and pride.” This year, Shafer wants it to serve as a “Post COVID-19 Reset”. “During COVID-19 our opportunities to volunteer and fundraise changed drastically, and just like the rest of the world, we’ve had to learn to adjust,” said Shafer. “Now that we are to tour Easterseals West Kentucky again, my focus is on spending as much time as we can volunteering and supporting them in addition to having fun!” With an organization that’s constantly growing, there’s always something coming up new. “We are entering a new generation for The Charity League! Gone are the days of only being allowed ONE working member. Now we are collectively a group of women who work, stay home, are single, married, have children or not - we come from all walks of life, and everyone is welcome,” said Shafer. The Charity League has been working towards modernizing, by creating social media groups for current and former members making communication easier, making their application electronic, and utilizing Google Drive to store memories and pictures in place of scrapbooks. “We may be a new modernized generation of women but there is one commonality that spans the decades of members; in a world that is ever evolving, the support and love we have for our community, Easterseals West Kentucky, and our local charities, will NEVER change,” said Shafer. Over the next five years, Shafer would not only love to see their membership grow but also work towards the development of new fundraisers and events that could benefit the community.
