16 FEBRUARY 2026 | INTHEVUE.COM Margie Silva and Kaitlyn Wilson work side by side at the Goodwill Opportunity Center, united by both family and a shared passion for helping others. Margie is the Opportunity Center Manager and Kaitlyn is the Office Manager. Their roles place them at the heart of Goodwill Kentucky’s mission to empower individuals, strengthen families, and create meaningful opportunities throughout the community. As a mother–daughter duo, their story is well known. Kaitlyn practically grew up at Goodwill Kentucky, witnessing firsthand as Margie built a 17-year career dedicated to changing lives. Through those years, Kaitlyn saw the real impact of Goodwill’s programs on individuals and families, which sparked her own desire to serve others. After graduating from college, she began her Goodwill journey in the retail stores, intentionally learning the organization from the ground up. A pivotal moment came when Kaitlyn assisted individuals at one of Goodwill Kentucky’s expungement clinics. Watching people filled with hope as they embraced the chance for a fresh start left a lasting impression. Inspired by that experience, Kaitlyn followed her heart and transitioned to the mission side of the organization, where she now serves alongside her mother at the Goodwill Opportunity Center. Together, their journey reflects not just a family bond, but a shared commitment to strengthening the community one opportunity at a time. When asked which iconic duo they relate to, Margie and Kaitlyn didn’t hesitate: Rory and Lorelai Gilmore, because they are best friends first and mother and daughter second. When asked how they successfully work together, Margie often hears, “I could never work that closely with my daughter.” The answer, they say, is simple: clearly defined roles and a shared mission. Margie manages the Opportunity Center team and oversees its programs, while Kaitlyn handles the administrative operations and works closely with the Director of Career Services. At work, the focus is always on serving the individuals who walk through their doors, with personal matters intentionally left at home. Once the workday ends, the dynamic may shift, at least in theory, but Kaitlyn usually still ends up in charge, and somehow it works. Their individual strengths complement one another seamlessly. Margie thrives in fast-paced environments, juggling multiple responsibilities with ease and confidence. She’s energized by pressure and excels at keeping things moving forward. Kaitlyn balances that energy with organization and precision. She’s the one who can instantly locate an invoice, produce a report on short notice, or remember exactly where something was placed. Together, they ensure nothing falls through the cracks. The lessons they’ve learned from each other run deep. Margie credits Kaitlyn with teaching her positivity, forgiveness, and kindness. Kaitlyn, in turn, learned from her mother to chase her dreams, embrace sensitivity as a strength, and lead with heart. Their shared goal is simple but powerful: to make a lasting, positive impact in their community. By showing up each day with purpose and compassion, they know even small efforts can create meaningful change, and that’s exactly what they’re working toward.
