40 FEBRUARY 2026 | INTHEVUE.COM on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Janice followed behind just four days later, in the early hours of Sunday morning, May 18. “I’m not sure how to describe this but when she took her final breath, peace immediately settled over her face and a smile appeared,” Jimila said. “I know she was with my Daddy and it looked like she had gone back 15 years in time – like the age was completely gone from her face.” There is a quiet tenderness in how the family understands the timing. Sedated and deep into dementia, Jimila notes, “Mother never knew Daddy was gone, but he would have had to live through it if she would have gone first.” Jimila says she believes that is the beauty in this blessing. Both Jimmie and Jan received the gift they hoped for: being able to remain in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by peace, calm, and the people they loved most in the world. On the afternoon of May 19, the two were laid to rest, side by side. A joint graveside service. Both caskets carried by their grandchildren. Two hearses, one following the other, and the black Volkswagen Beetle stick shift with the “Fast Nanny” license plate right in the midst of the procession, just as “Ladybug” would have wanted. Since their passing, Jimila says she has learned of countless quiet acts of generosity her parents did for others but never spoke of. “So many people have told me stories about things I never knew - ways they helped people and helped the community,” she says. “They never talked about any of that – they just did it and gave what they had to help where they could.” The family says Jimmie and Jan’s legacy lives on not in what they owned, but in the people they helped and the community they served. “There aren’t many couples who get to spend their lives together in this world, even fewer get to stay home and be cared for by family in their late ages – and very few have the privilege of leaving this world together,” Jimila says. Though the loss was overwhelming, and unexpected, Taylor smiled and said, “Wherever one was, the other was never far behind - that was exactly how they liked it and that is exactly how they chose to leave this world - one gone and the other not far behind.” Sixty-five years of marriage. A lifetime of faith, devotion, laughter, and service. Two souls who entered the final chapter of life nearly hand in hand, leaving behind a legacy that will ripple through generations. In a world that often rushes past love, the story of Jimmie and Janice Cash reminds us that the greatest romances are not loud or flashy. They are faithful. They are kind. They are built day by day - and when the time comes, they leave together, carried by the very love they spent a lifetime creating. Love, after all, is the greatest gift - and love like this is a love without end, Amen.
