It’s hard to imagine a Mayfield team seeking redemption on the football field, or to say a 9-3 season fell short of any expectations. But that’s how second-year Cardinals coach Cliff Dew and his crew feel, now one year removed from an opening season loss to Graves County in the “Battle of the Birds”, a 41-10 Week 3 thrashing from Paducah Tilghman, and a season-ending 47-7 home loss to Lexington Christian Academy in the third round of the Class 2A playoffs. “Our expectations are always the same,” Dew said. “We expect to work hard, prepare, and get better every week so we will be in the running come November. We will have great senior leadership. They are a talented group who come to work every day.” Among those in that subset; senior tight end and defensive end, Will Morris, who suited up in four contests last year. “We all have one goal in mind, and that’s to make it to Lexington every year,” Morris said. “Last year, we fell short. Some stuff fell out of our control. But we’re strong. We’re coming back, and we’re going to make it back to Lexington. (Lexington Christian Academy) just wanted it more.
