Graves County football flashed incredible moxie last year, finishing 9-3 under first-year head coach Tyler Debernardi — nabbing statement victories against Mayfield, Madisonville-North Hopkins, McCracken County, as well as a Class 5A first-round playoff win against Greenwood. Graduating anybody from that kind of squad would be tough for any program, but the Eagles hope to keep flying despite this annual rite of passage. “Our young Eagles need to find a way to shock opponents,” Debernardi said. “We have a culture of our older guys bringing along our younger players to set the standard. This year, young players will have to lead younger and inexperienced players, but I believe in what we are building and have faith they will rise to the challenge.” Among those set to embrace an expanded role is junior wide receiver and safety Ty Cavette, who last year finished with 390 yards and five scores on just 19 catches. Like others from the Class of 2026 and 2027, he knows he will have to jump into the leadership mix. “I’m looking forward to rebuilding our front,” Cavette said. “We graduated 20-plus guys, and we’re young up front.
