Located in the heart of Paducah, Atomic City Family Fun Center has go-karts, laser tag, glow in the dark mini golf, an arcade, and much more! It is the perfect indoor spot for those hot summer days. While you have the kids, drive a mile down to Kentucky Shores for more fun. This family activity center on Kentucky Lake will continue to keep the entire family en- tertained with go-karts, a climbing rock wall, zip lines, inflatables, train rides, and so much more. There is plenty to do locally for the adults as well. Whether you are a wine connoisseur or have never had a glass in your life, you will love visiting the vineyards in our local area. Right here in Paducah is the award-winning Purple Toad Winery. Purple Toad is known for their experimental and unique wines, keeping over 43 wines regularly! Go out for a wine tasting or enjoy a picnic around their vineyard. If you prefer to stay home, talk to Aloha Pools and Spas about transforming your backyard into an oasis with a swimming pool, spa, or hot tub. Kentucky’s summer heat is no match for the waters of Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. These two lakes bring endless amenities, located just 30 miles away from Paducah. Boating, fishing, shopping, hiking, and weekend getaways on the lakes will make for an unforgettable summer. Stay close to both lakes at The Dam Motel, situated 10 minutes from Lake Barkley and walking distance to Kentucky Lake. With boat parking, outside plug-ins and outdoor firepit, The Dam Motel makes for a great weekend getaway for your family or a fisherman’s retreat. Another local fishing haven is the Sportsman’s Lodge Campgrounds and Marina with cottages, fishing cabins, campsites, and a full-service marina. If fishing is not your style, spend the night in one of Buzzard Rock’s fully furnished cabins instead. Enjoy a dip in their private pool or rent a pontoon from their marina for some fun on Lake Barkley. If you’re in the mood to relax on the beach, swing by Eddy Creek Marina Resort for a day at their pool, private beach, and experience their waterfront dining. Once you start getting hungry, stop by Hu-B’s Marina Restaurant. Hu-B’s has a reputation for being a perfect spot on the waterfront; you are guaranteed a breathtaking view, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You could also spend a day inland at some of the antique shops, historical attractions, and museums on Lake Barkley. Hu-B’s Offshore Marine Deal- ership will get you back on the water in your very own boat. Offshore sells a wide range of new and pre-owned boats. If you are over 21, don’t miss Kentucky Lake’s thriving nightlife with karaoke, live music, and great drinks at local bars. The Chateau features full amenities that comfortably accommodate up to 14 people, and is only steps away from the lake. However, the lakes are not the only summertime attraction outside of Paducah. Located about 40 miles away is the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois. Positioned between the Mississippi and Ohio River, the Shawnee National Forest is full of beautiful cliffs, boulders, and winding creeks. Southern Illinois offers a variety of outdoor recreation, but the most popular and spectacular site is the Garden of the Gods. You won’t want to miss the rock formations and views from the high cliffs. The Paducah area is fortunate to be a short drive to such amazing places, but we cannot forget all that our own city has to offer. The historic downtown area is bursting with culture and life. Spend your summer shopping at local boutiques, eating good food, visiting our world-famous museums, and enjoying our talented local artists. Paducah’s Parks and Recreation department also goes above and beyond. Paducah’s Parks will be hosting tons of exciting events this summer including the Noble Park Fish Out, the Kids Tennis Carnival, the Paducah Regatta, and the Greenway Trail Fun Run. Outside of those events, there are also free activities to enjoy every day at our local parks; walking or biking the Greenway Trail, taking the family to one of the many huge playgrounds, going disc golfing at Stuart Nelson Park, or capturing pictures of the beautiful scenery along the Ohio River. Make the most of this summer by enjoying your city. P.S. Generously applying sunscreen and limiting sun exposure will help prevent skin cancer and sunspots. You can never be too careful in the summertime! Visit Paducah Dermatology for any of your skin care needs including cancer screenings, treatment for rashes, and cosmetic procedures.
