WellLife RAW INFO FROM LOCAL HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS APPRECIATION DURING NURSES MONTH HOW TO SHOW By Amanda King, PR Specialis t , B ap tist Health Pad u c ah nurse [ nurs ] noun: a person formally educated and trained in the care of the sick or infirm This definition is only the start of what truly makes a nurse. Nurses care, comfort, and pour themselves completely into each patient. They often step in as family members to patients who have no one by their side to advocate for them, to dry their tears, and hold their hands. As the trusted advocates who are dedicated to providing safe, quality patient care, recognizing their efforts can be a simple way to give back for their continued efforts. May has been designated Nurses Month by the American Nurses Association to honor the continued dedication of nurses and the positive impact they have on our lives. Baptist Health Paducah joins the American Nurses Association (ANA) and healthcare providers across the country in celebration of National Nurses Week. The week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is revered as the founder of modern nursing. National Nurses Week honors their contributions and sacrifices and reminds us to thank the medical professionals who help keep our communities safe and healthy. Here are a few easy ways to extend your appreciation: • Gratitude – Take a moment to say “thank you” to a nurse. These words are so powerful. Expressing your gratitude can make all the difference in a nurse’s day. You can write a sweet note, too, especially if you’re leaving the hospital or had a great experience during a test or procedure. A sincere “thank you” goes a long way. • Kindness – Nurses are part of the daily fabric in our communities. If you see a nurse, offer up kindness for their dedication. Whether that’s through a smile, opening a door, or giving them your respect during interactions, each of these actions go a long way to show nurses your appreciation. • Recognition – The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses every day. Baptist Health Paducah is proud to be a DAISY Award Hospital Partner, recognizing one of our nurses with this special honor bi-monthly. Each DAISY Award honoree is recognized at a ceremony in her/his unit and will receive a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled “A Healer’s Touch.” Patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, volunteers, and employees may nominate a deserving nurse for a DAISY Award. If you would like to nominate a nurse, complete the DAISY Award nomination form and mail to: The DAISY Award Attn: Mary Legge, RN Baptist Health Paducah 2501 Kentucky Ave. Paducah, KY 42003 To each of our caring nurses, we applaud your hard work, expertise and compassion, and we appreciate your commitment to safety, quality, and innovation.
