Beverly’s favorite part of this job is seeing patients at their most vulnerable times, bonding with them, and then watching them win. “Ringing the bell is my favorite day!”. Beverly is a previous breast cancer patient. In March of 2019, she was diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). In September, she had a left lumpectomy. From October to December, she had 28 rounds of radiation. She is currently going through preventative endocrine therapy. Her advice to current cancer patients is to have a great support system. Throughout her journey, she had her husband, Wesley Wilson, her best friend since second grade, Melissa Sauer, and her two sons, Logan and Dakota by her side. “My family and my husband’s family were all in my corner cheering with me each step of the way.“ Outside of being a nurse, Beverly enjoys spending time with her grandson, Otis, who is 14 months old. She and her husband own Birmingham Pointe Event Center in Marshall County. She enjoys decorating and planning events. They also own a catering business and a wedding rental business. “I’m just thankful to be able to serve my community in so many ways and am thankful for my patients and family who nominated me for this honor. I don’t do it for the pats on the back, but it’s nice to know my patients appreciate the care I give them. I do my very best for each one of them. Sometimes I come home exhausted, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!” Enduring the long process of chemotherapy on a weekly basis can be both boring and painful. Fortunately, the staff at Mercy Health make this experience bearable. Beverly has been an inspiration to my mom and countless others. Beverly fought the fight and won. Her personal experience with cancer has enabled her to connect with her patients on a deeper level, allowing her to provide them with the care and support they need.
