When designing the facility, she took trips to tour well- known kennels in big cities, borrowing ideas for functionality from each to create her own. There are soft couches, fluffy raised beds, enclosures with fun names like Woofsor Castle, LapDog Mansion, Mutt Everest Retreat and Dogtona Beach, 12 outdoor play areas, and a spacious indoor play area. While the services are pretty standard for pet boarding facilities, the experience at Sunshine Purrs & Wags is anything but. One might consider it more like a preschool for pets, with Dr. Flanary as its headmistress. “Every day during daycare, our pets do a ‘Tail-Wagging Good Time Activity’ and that might be ‘Memory Monday’ where we hide treats throughout the area or it could be ‘Fetch Club Friday’ where we play fetch and run and jump,” she says. There are bacon-flavored bubble pool parties, fall events like hay rides and treat bobbing, and neon-glow pajama parties. For Dr. Flanary, it’s critical that pets at the facility get the chance to have sensory and movement stimuli while there. “That’s why you send your kids to preschool, so that they can get exposed and learn and grow and dogs don’t get enough stimulation if they’re sitting at home all day on the couch,” she says. Dr. Flanary is a vet first, so the facility and programming is all designed for pet health and care. Dogs of similar sizes are grouped for both play and housing to limit stress and aggression. Pets are expected to be fully vaccinated when they arrive (or they can receive vaccinations on-site), and are given an intake exam to check for potential issues that could make them a health risk to themselves or other pets. For pet owners, there are plenty of things that make Sunshine Purrs & Wags a “pawsitively” exquisite experience, like budget boarding options, flexible drop and pick up times, early morning and late evening daycare drop off to accommodate workdays. And, of course, on-campus vet care so if a check-up or vet care is needed, it can be done while pet parents work. Booking is simple too and can be done online, through a mobile app or over the phone. Dr. Flanary is a pet parent herself, so she knew that she wanted Sunshine Purrs & Wags to be a place where families could enjoy fun with their animals. Upcoming family “paw-ties” include: “Whine and Dine Singles Mingling Events”, “Pawsitively Spooky Petacular”, and Santa visits. “I wanted this place to be different than anything else in our area,” she says. “I’m looking for a place for people and their pets where it is all about happiness.” A PAWSitively bright stay while you’re away! 210 Eagle Nest Drive Paducah, KY 42003 270.228.9247 Call to book your pet's stay today!
