So many times since I have lost Derek I have wondered what more I could have done for him, wishing that I still had something that I could do for him. This pull was something that I wanted to do for him, as a way for my family and me to remember him and also to help keep his memory and legacy alive through this scholarship. Derek was an amazing son, and we were so blessed to have had him for the 21 years that we did. We chose to do a tractor pull because it was what he loved as a child and young adult. From the time he was two years on through 21, he went to every National Farm Machinery Show and Truck and Tractor Pull at Louisville, KY. We centered most all of his birthday parties as a child around the Truck Pull that MSU would have every year in February at the Expo Center. He loved pulling; we remember him saying in his younger years that he wanted my dad to build a pulling tractor. The night of the pull was all that we had hoped for and then some. Being there with our family and friends, Derek’s friends from grade school through college and the love and support from our community was such a blessing to us.
