A lot of your job is connecting people to each other. Knowing a lot of lenders, home inspectors, and electricians that people will need throughout a home buying process is so important.” Matthews’ passion for real estate extends far beyond her work at RE/MAX, however, as she also owns Princess Properties of Paducah, a rental business providing short-term rentals throughout the area. Matthews started Princess Properties with her daughter. The duo currently has four homes and five short-term rentals. In addition to her work at RE/MAX and Prin- cess Properties, Matthews is also an affiliate of the Homes for Heroes program. Started by another realtor right after 9/11, the program aims to give back to local first responders and educators. When a realtor signs up to participate in the program, they are committed to donating a portion of the commission back to the hero being serviced. “When I find a home for a hero, or I sell a home for a hero, I donate 30 percent of my commission,” Matthews said. “This is just one way we like to give back.” As well as being an affiliate of Homes for Heroes, Matthews also sponsors VUE Maga- zine’s Community Hero Highlight stories each month. For this editorial series, readers and com- munity members nominate heroes each month to be featured in the magazine. Matthews not only picks out the hero who will be featured, but also writes the story. “For our specific community, I like to pick nominees who have a hero’s heart,” she said. “I in- terview those people and highlight what they have going on. I believe that by bringing these heroes to light, it’s encouraging to everybody. It’s going to encourage more people to act like a hero.” Of all the different hats Matthews wears, she said her favorite part about working in the community is going out and talking to different kinds of people.
