One of F.A.C.E. Makeup Artistry’s greatest challenges was my decision to leave social media three years ago, both personally and professionally. Despite its prominence in beauty industry marketing, I prioritized authenticity and well-being over visibility and growth. This choice allowed me to focus on deepening client relationships without the distraction of social media content creation. Clients appreciated the more personalized experience, leading to organic growth through word-of-mouth referrals and local networking. This shift aligned with my values, fostering a supportive community and emphasizing genuine connections. What career achievement makes you most proud? As a sole proprietor, my proudest achievement is integrating personal and professional aspects within F.A.C.E. Makeup Artistry. This synergy has enabled me to sustain passion and performance without burnout, ensuring that my personal life supports my business, and my professional life supports my personal lifestyle. What is the best piece of business advice that you’ve ever received? One of the most profound pieces of business advice I’ve received is encapsulated in the phrase, “You are traffic.” This powerful concept highlights our active contribution to the environments and systems we engage with. It urges us to look in the mirror and recognize that we are not passive bystanders but integral participants, shaping outcomes through our decisions and actions. Embracing this perspective has been pivotal in my career, instilling a deep sense of responsibility and empowerment. One of the significant challenges I faced in my professional journey was adapting to a new community after relocating from Memphis, TN to Murray, KY in 2018. Initially working remotely, I felt isolated in a new environment where I knew no one. To overcome this hurdle, I decided to immerse myself in the local community. Joining the Young Professionals of Murray through the Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce was a pivotal step. This group provided a welcoming network where I could connect with like-minded individuals and eventually, through these connections, I found a rewarding opportunity to contribute to CFSB in their Marketing Department. This experience taught me the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone, building new relationships, and seizing opportunities that arise from embracing change. What career achievement makes you most proud? The career achievement that fills me with the most pride is successfully spearheading the adoption and enhancement of cutting-edge technology and data analytics to revolutionize how we communicate and market our products to clients and the community. A significant milestone within this journey was leading the implementation of a new Content Management System (CMS), empowering us to harness data more effectively. This system integrates advanced features such as automation, customer journeys, and dynamic content options, enabling us to deliver more personalized and impactful experiences to our clients and community. The biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome in my professional career is taking things personal and/or caring what others think of me. I don’t like to be misunderstood or my intentions be perceived differently than what was intended. I care for others and the work that I do or create deeply. I aim to keep an open mind, a growth mindset, and to see all perspectives in all situations so when others do not, or they aim to misunderstand, then there’s a sense of frustration or disappointment. However, I think by creating open communication, knowing how to receive feedback, and adding a dash of knowing you will never please everyone, then acceptance becomes easier to embrace. What career achievement makes you most proud? The career achievement that makes me the most proud is the transition of career fields after 15 years, and making the jump even though I had the fear of not being successful. I’m so glad I made the jump! What is the best piece of business advice that you’ve ever received? “No” is a full sentence. You don’t need to be a people pleaser to make progress, make friends, or to be successful. You also don’t need to over- communicate to advocate for yourself, your time, and what you’re willing to commit to a project. This easily can transcend into your personal life as well.
