Paducah Chamber of Commerce Member, Avetta Member, NECA Member Emily Alsup has built her career on determination, strategic thinking, and a willingness to face challenges head-on. As the leader of AC Alsup and Brothers, she played a pivotal role in guiding the company through a critical turning point—one that determined whether the business would remain the size it was or expand to the next level. Her decisive leadership and commitment to growth helped shape the company’s future, laying the foundation for long-term success. Her journey hasn’t been without obstacles. Transitioning from an employee mindset to that of a business owner was one of the most significant challenges she’s faced. After years of working a predictable 9-to-5 schedule, she had to adjust to the uncertainty, responsibility, and constant demands of self-employment—all while raising a family. For Emily, faith and prayer became her foundation, the prescription she relied on to overcome doubt and stay grounded through unpredictable seasons. Emily’s role in the powerline construction industry is remarkable not just for her leadership, but for her rarity. As a woman leading a powerline construction company—a field dominated by men—she is part of a small group nationwide. Adding to that distinction, AC Alsup and Brothers is a union labor-backed company based in western Kentucky, which is also uncommon in the industry. Throughout her career, Emily has found inspiration in other women business owners, from local entrepreneurs in Paducah to female leaders of powerline companies across the country. Even when working in the same industry, collaboration often takes precedence over competition. During storm events, for example, she works alongside other companies to provide utilities with as much manpower as possible, showing that shared goals can unite even potential competitors. Her vision for AC Alsup and Brothers goes beyond business growth. Emily is committed to strengthening the community by securing contracts that allow union linemen to work closer to home, reducing the need for long stretches away from their families. In 2024, the company launched a scholarship for local high school seniors interested in entering the trades, further investing in the region’s future workforce. For Emily, success comes from having a mission—one that keeps her grounded during challenges, motivated in periods of hard work, and aligned during times of growth. It’s a philosophy that has guided her journey and continues to shape both her leadership and her company’s impact on the community. Emily Alsup CEO/Owner, AC Alsup and Brothers LLC Sponsored by 40 Under Forty Paducah Young Professionals Member, Paducah Chamber of Commerce Member, Paducah Chamber Connectors, Charity League of Paducah Snowball Co-Chair Erika Calhoun describes herself as driven and multi-passionate, a trait evident in the diverse ventures she’s built over the past decade. After graduating college in 2019, she became the first and only employee of her family’s new business, the Commonwealth Event Center. She established the venue from the ground up—creating systems, pricing, contracts, a website, advertising, and client management. Whether serving as a sound engineer or bartender during events, she embraced every role necessary to keep operations running smoothly. The venue’s development inspired two additional businesses. First was Commonwealth Cottage, her inaugural construction project and the first of many vacation rentals she has since helped acquire and develop. Located on the event center property, the Cottage offers convenient accommodations for wedding parties and guests. Second was a bar business launched with her sister, providing bartenders and beverage service exclusively for venue clients. Her entrepreneurial journey began even earlier—at 19—when she purchased her first rental property. That decision sparked a passion for real estate investing, leading her and her husband to acquire nearly 30 rental properties in the region. Following in the footsteps of her grandmother, renowned local realtor Mary Sue Brooks, Erika earned her real estate license in 2021. She has since specialized in commercial real estate, multi-family properties, and investor partnerships. In 2024, she joined Arnold Realty Group, one of the region’s top-producing brokerages. Most recently, Erika co-founded Serendipity Sip n’ Spa in downtown Paducah with her business partner, Gracie, creating a space that blends relaxation, style, and a unique hospitality experience. Alongside her professional pursuits, Erika has navigated the challenges of leadership—particularly learning to be a clear, intentional communicator rather than simply an “idea person.” She credits her adaptability and cross-industry experience with giving her a competitive edge, whether in hospitality, real estate, or investment. Coming from a family of accomplished entrepreneurs, Erika draws inspiration from her mother, grandmother, and grandparents, whose decades-long business success continues to motivate her. Now a new mother herself, Erika is focused on building businesses with purpose, giving back through tithing and nonprofits, and raising children who share her values. Her advice to others is simple: many opportunities are just one decision away— you simply have to move past hesitation and set them in motion.
